Summary
Basement Drawing is a VR artwork by Albert Oehlen that transports viewers into the artist’s creative process. Through a highly realistic avatar of Oehlen at work, the experience creates an encounter between artist and viewer while blurring the boundaries between physical and virtual space.
Curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Artistic Director at Serpentine, and developed with VIVE Arts and MacInnes Studio, the work is accompanied by music composed by Oehlen himself.
For Basement Drawing, Artanim performed the body motion capture of Albert Oehlen.
The VR work was presented at Art Basel in Basel from June 16 to June 19, 2022.
